Description/Job Summary

Assist in bid preparation based on the Estimator’s direction.

Responsibilities/Duties

Safety & Risk Management

  • Bid projects with a safety-first mindset.
  • Abide by the Company’s Fleet Driving Policy.

Bid Management

  • Prepare and assemble detailed estimates for a part of a bid through takeoffs, drawing review, and specification review for accurate proposals.
  • Analyze project plans, drawings, and specifications to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Conduct data analysis to determine material, labor, and equipment costs for utility projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and owners to gather necessary information for estimate.
  • Utilize estimation software and tools to generate accurate and comprehensive cost estimates.
  • Generate subcontractors’ scopes of work.
  • Call in necessary locates for review of existing utilities before bid.
  • Coordinate any necessary exploratory digging and site visits necessary to understand conditions.
  • Organize information in order to lead and participate in post bid review.
  • Be prepared for and actively participate in bid review meetings.
  • Assist in preparing project budgets.
  • Participate in hand-off meetings with project and field management.
  • Work closely with the project team to address any estimation adjustments or changes during the project lifecycle.
  • Continuously research and stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and cost-effective techniques for utility estimation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assemble crew sheets with the proper labor, equipment, and production.
  • Prepare subcontractor and supplier lists and request project submittals and project folder for operations.

Required Qualifications

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, Word, etc
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Ability to prepare a scope of work
  • Experience with pricing, purchasing, negotiating, and preparing purchase orders for materials and equipment
  • Experience reading and understanding drawings
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experienced in planning, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Safe work or No work mindset; fully committed to safety and jobsite standards, policies, and processes
