Description/Job Summary

The Assistant Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable, as well as the human resources accounting functions, such as payroll and medical insurance, and for ensuring all accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and established accounting principals


• Responsible for general ledger accounting reconciliation: cash receipts, cash disbursements, and journal entries including all balance sheet reconciliations.

• Oversee monthly close and processing of financial statement packet for internal and external users

• Monthly balance sheet reconciliation (year-end audit work papers)

• Timely maintenance and reconciliation of monthly bank accounts.

• Assistance of cash flow analysis including monitoring of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and work in progress

• Assistance with fiscal year budgeting

• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting

• Reconcile all bank deposits and corporate credit card purchases

• Maintain schedule of fixed assets and depreciation, assist with annual property tax reporting

• Monthly reconciliation of general ledger to ERP with adjustments as needed

• Assist CFO with management of all accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and internal controls

• Review and approve monthly sales and use tax reports

• Assist with corporate integration and functionality to new ERP system

• Demonstrate an understanding of system functionality to provide answers for financial requests

• Reconcile monthly payroll tax reports

• Reconcile 401k, health insurance premiums, and claims and assist with other payroll-related financial reporting

• Reconcile retirement plans including enrollments, adjustments, and withdrawals

• Assist in preparation of annual audit, year-end close entries, and 1099 reporting

• Provide research and guidance as needed for various accounting and reporting issues as they arise in areas such as revenue recognition, lease accounting, and joint ventures

• Other duties as needed by CFO

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with at least 12 hours of direct Accounting courses and three to five years relevant comparable general ledger accounting experience

• Experience reading, interpreting, and producing complex financial statements

• Experience with general ledger functions and the month/year-end close process

• Possess strong Microsoft Excel skills

Preferred Qualifications

• ERP system accounting system

• Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices

• Construction finance experience

• Strong team player with ability to partner and communicate with colleagues and clients

• Commitment to excellent customer service for internal and external constituents

• Strong time management skills and ability to meet prioritize and meet deadlines

• Ability to maintain a high level of confidential information

• Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving

• Experience providing leadership by example and influence with a collaborative, team-oriented, highly communicative approach

• Self-starter with an ability to move multiple engagements/projects forward to completion

• Ability to proactively identify issues and suggest solutions
